With Mrs. Drury
Ten Week Language Arts Classes @ Eucatastrophe Coffee & Used Books
Creative Writing Workshop
Open to ages 9 - high school
Wednesdays 11:00-12:00
10 sessions, Jan. 21 - March 25, 2026
Cost for 10 sessions: $110
In this enrichment workshop young writers will have an opportunity to practice writing skills in a fun, cooperative environment. A new writing element or device will be introduced each week with an opportunity in class to practice that particular skill in creative ways. This workshop is an excellent opportunity to play with writing and to share with an audience of peers. I find that it encourages and motivates students to put their ideas down on paper when it’s done in a cooperative group setting.
Reader’s Theater
Open to ages 9 - high school
Wednesdays 12:30-1:30
10 sessions, Jan. 21 - March 25, 2026
Cost for 10 sessions: $110
Readers Theater is an engaging and effective way to build student fluency and enhance reading comprehension. It introduces drama and transforms the class into a stage as students perform in groups to present a story. In this class students will read from scripts, focusing on oral performance. There is no memorization required, just a desire to have fun acting out characters and stories in a group with other readers!
Poetry Journaling
Open to ages 9 - high school
Wednesdays 1:45-2:45
10 sessions, Jan. 21 - March 25, 2026
Cost for 10 sessions: $110
Students will learn and create a new form of poetry each week while examining the many different devices of poetry: rhyme, alliteration, rhythm, symbolism, simile and metaphor, and imagery. Each student will take home an individual poetry journal of their design after the last class.

About Mrs. Drury:
Leslie Drury retired in 2022 from a 40 year teaching career; the past 20 years were spent in a parent partnership program teaching a variety of self-designed language arts and history classes, and working alongside parents helping to facilitate home-based learning.
Mrs. Drury has a passion for sparking the imagination of her students and enjoys seeing them thrive as learners. She especially likes the group dynamic of writing courses as students share their written work and get audience feedback; it’s always motivating and fun to hear what others have created.
Reading wonderful literature and poetry and writing stories were childhood activities that gave Leslie hours of pleasure; her hope is that children of all ages will be inspired to read and write more.
